In Memoriam, Robert Ward 1917-2013

Eminent American composer, Robert Ward (September 13, 1917 – April 3, 2013) has died at the age of 95. The composer of music in a wide variety of musical genres, Ward’s most enduring and well-known work, The Crucible, (1961) won the Pulitzer Prize for Music and the New York Music Critics’ Circle Citation Award in 1962 and was composed during his tenure as Executive Vice-President/Managing Editor of Galaxy Music Corporation, a position he held from 1956 to 1966.

New Arrangement of “The Passenger”

“The Passenger” (No. 2 from “Five Love Songs,” baritone solo and piano) by Randall Thompson was published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company in 1961 as Catalog No. 119. In 2012, David A. Seitz created a new arrangement of this title for baritone solo, TTBB chorus and piano. This worthy addition to the repertoire for male choral ensembles is now available in-print from ECS Publishing through its distributor, Canticle Distributing as Catalog No. 7963.
