Buoso's Ghost


Biography

Michael Ching is a composer/librettist, conductor, songwriter, and former arts administrator. He is best known as composer/librettist for two comic operas, BUOSO'S GHOST and SPEED DATING TONIGHT!. His most recent opera, ALICE RYLEY, is a ghost story commissioned, premiered, and remounted by the Savannah Voice Festival. He is currently writing a new opera for them, ANNA HUNTER. His 2011 opera, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, opera a cappella was premiered by Opera Memphis, Playhouse on the Square, and DeltaCappella. It is available at Albany Records.

Michael was Artistic Director of Opera Memphis from 1992-2010. He is currently music director of Amarillo Opera and Nickel City Opera and composer-in-residence at Savannah Voice Festival. He studied composition with three opera composers--Iain Hamilton, Robert Ward, and Carlisle Floyd.
