Hoffman, Steven

Dr. Steven Hoffman serves as Kantor at King of Glory Lutheran Church, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and as Kantor at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and Campus Center, and Lecturer in Music, teaching Organ and Counterpoint at the University of Wyoming, Laramie. Steven received the Bachelor of Music degree in Organ and Choral Music at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin, studying with Miriam Clapp Duncan and George Damp. He earned the Master of Music degree in Organ at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, studying with Larry Schou, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ and Sacred Music at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, studying with Marilyn Mason.

The Variations on Lobe den Herren began as a set of improvisations that were performed both informally and in recitals while touring Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic with Professor Mason in 2008. Her enthusiasm led to the commission that has resulted in this publication. These Variations are dedicated to the glory of God in Christ, and further dedicated, with affection and esteem, to Marilyn Mason.
